Children’s Stories – Birthday Blues

You will discover fun, wholesome children’s stories on line at Nana Lyn’s Story Corner.. Fun and wholesome children’s stories can be found at Nana Lyn’s Story Corner.. The vivid imaginanation inherent in children is underlying glue of Nana Lyn’s original stories..

Nana Lyn was fascinated by play writing and signed up for a play writing class several years ago being one of four students.. In response t o the play-writing assignment, she wrote “Gabby,” a children’s play.. “Gabby” was written especially for Halloween and is the children’s play which grew out of the play writing class.. Both Birthday Blues Part one and Birthday Blues part Two are based on the children’s play which I wrote entitled, “Gabby.”.”

Upon completion of writing the play, each student was then to read their play to the other students and the teacher. Once on Magic Island, Gabby is immediately confronted with a clash of good and evil between the Wicked Witch of the West and Glenda, the Good Witch of the North! Her comment was not intended to be a compliment, but a writer of children’s stories would tend to hear it as a positive observation. Obviously, the commentator had forgotten the flexibility and lack of boundaries existing within the world of imagination. It is necessary for adults to adjust to the limitations of reality.. It is very important in the world of imagination, that the limitations of time and space are ignored..

It is necessary, however, that the writer construct a believable reality within the arena constructed. Nothing is more annoying than being asked to set aside one’s disbelief for a storyline, setting, or character that is unbelievable and inconcsistent within the framework of the created reality..

The Old Woman Who Lives in the Shoe rescues Hansel and Gretel from the Wicked Witch of the West in Birthday Blues – Part Two.. Within the world of children’s stories, that makes perfect sense.. Gabby is dumbstruck to find herself stranded in the middle of the ocean with an owl and a cat.. Ollie Octopus suddenly appears by the side of the boat and offers “bus rides” for food.. What a strange thing for Ollie Octopus to do when he offered a bus ride; he was not a bus.. Howeve, Gabby does hitch a ride to Magic Island by giving Ollie a jar of honey for “bus fare” and riding in the wooden seat hanging around his neck..

Gabby makes it to Magic Island in time to witness an exciting clash between the Wicked Witch of the West and Glenda the Good Witch of the North.
