So how’s life in the Pacific Northwest? What are the pro’s and cons?

I know that you can’t find a greener place anywhere than there; just imagine the green lands ranging from British Columbia to the Evergreen State of Washington, passing by the shiny green coastal line of Oregon till the Redwood Forests of Northern California! Wow!

Also this region must be the cleanest part of earth; both in the streets and buildings, and climatically. The weather is very moderate throughout the whole year, and the people are educated, religiously tolerant (even it has the highest percentages of atheists, agnostics, homo’s, bi’s, etc).

We must not forget the civillized people and their physical fitness too!

However, I never knew what this region actually lacks: Are the universities there that good? What about the restaurants and places of entertainment? Do people there wish moving to places like NYC, LA, Chicago, Toronto and Montreal? What is it that you miss and you can’t find in the Pacific Northwest?

Thinking about moving there. I’m from So Cal.

I am from Portland but now live in NJ. I hate it here. The only thing I’ve found that was better on the east coast is the Greek food, it’s amazing. Portland has a Greek restaurant downtown which is terrible by my new standards. Otherwise the food is really great because it’s usually fresh grown and there are plenty of chefs. I went to a restaurant on the jersey shore and the seafood wasn’t even fresh, it was frozen shipped from Maine. You can go to any restaurant on the Oregon coast and the seafood was caught that day or very recently.

As far as university goes, I didn’t go to one. I graduated from a community college. I feel I am just as well educated as anybody in my field. College is significantly cheaper in Oregon then in the east.

Entertainment is good. It just depends what you want to do, obviously if the outdoors is your entertainment then it’s superb. If you want concerts with big names then I have to give that one to the east. I don’t live far from Atlantic City or Philadelphia and I can see almost any famous act on tour. A lot of shows come through these areas from J Lo to Kathy Griffin, whoever you’re into, even Regis Philbin. The clubs I have been to in Portland aren’t as nice as the ones in the casinos. Portland area does have some nice breweries and wineries that the east doesn’t. I guess there are breweries out here but the famous one in AC was $40 for a steak dinner and it wasn’t that good.

Just to warn you, Pacific North-westerners don’t warm up to so cal people too well.
